Construction of Kentucky Dam
Construction of the Kentucky Dam began in 1938 and was completed in 1944. The filling of Kentucky Reservoir in 1945 opened the Tennessee River to year-round navigation and linked the Tennessee Valley with the nation’s inland waterway system. The Kentucky Dam Visitor Center is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday except for major holidays. It will be closed when the homeland security alert level is high (orange) or higher. |
